Streamline the Design Process: Outsource CAD Drafting, 3D Imagery and Fly-throughs

Designing a landscape can be a complex and time-consuming process, but with the right approach, you can streamline your workflow and increase your efficiency. One effective strategy is to break up the design work into stages and outsource the CAD and 3D drafting to a specialized provider.

Stage 1: Landscape Concept Development

  • Sketch the Concept Design: Start by sketching your Landscape Concept Design directly onto the clean Base Plan. This allows you to visualize the overall layout and design.
  • Prepare for CAD Drafting: Send the sketched concept to the CAD drafter, along with any relevant inspiration pictures you want to include as a materials palette.

Stage 2: Review and Revise

  • Review the First Draft: Once you receive the first CAD draft, review the plan and make any necessary markups in red pen to fix or change elements as the design comes together.
  • Finalize the Concept Design: After incorporating your revisions, the client can review and approve the final Landscape Concept Plan.

Stage 3: Begin 3D

  • Once the client has approved the Conceptual Plan send the pics you took onsite during the first sales call. If you haven’t sent inspirational images or the materials palette send these too.

Stage 4: Review and Revise

  • Once you receive the 3D Model in SketchUp revise, if necessary, by marking up the images and sending them back to us.
  • When it looks good in SketchUp we will then begin the Rendering in Lumion
  • With the 3D Illustrations and the Animated Fly-through, go sell the Construction Agreement.

Stage 5: Add-On Other Plans

  • Utilize the Concept Plan: Use the approved Landscape Concept Plan as a foundation to create additional plans, such as:
  • Planting Plan and Schedule
  • Quantities Plan
  • Lighting Plan
  • Layout and Dimensions Plan
  • Sections and Elevations
  • Leverage the Concept Design: The Landscape Concept Plan can serve as a guide for developing these supplementary plans, ensuring a cohesive and well-integrated design.

Outsourcing CAD and 3D Drafting: The Benefits

Outsourcing the CAD drafting can provide several advantages:

  1. Increased Capacity: By outsourcing the drafting, you can take on more work without the financial risk of hiring additional staff or investing in expensive software and hardware.
  2. Improved Efficiency: By following a structured process, you can save valuable time and focus on the areas where your design expertise is most valuable.
  3. Reduced Overhead: Outsourcing the CAD drafting eliminates the need for a larger office, additional computers, and the ongoing maintenance of design software.
  4. Consistent Workload: Outsourcing the drafting can help you maintain a steady workflow, even during periods of fluctuating business.
